Candle
Holder
Candle Holder defines the purpose of the subject, which is being used
incorrectly. It is intended to hold a candle, but it is holding a
rubber ball. This is it how it fits in the subject of unsuitable content.
As a personal
symbol, the pair of astronauts represents a gay couple and the candle
holder represents classic family, as a likely heirloom or hand me
down. Astronauts also symbolize progress…one small step / one
great leap…old progress and still out of reach for most people.
The compositions
also focus on the non-subject, the texture of the wall, the surface
it sits on. And some present unsuitable details – a nail in
the wall, imperfections in the wall surface, a large distressed black
solid descending uncomfortably from above, a shadow creeping in from
the side, the main subject is cropped slightly askew revealing a hint
of what is below, showing too much of the mantle so the emblem (the
non-subject) dominates the frame, and sickly light making the awkward
scene unpleasant. The nail exposed also indicates that something was
there before which was removed because it was unsuitable.
